Thanks for visiting and welcome to the site....

It's all about me, Lee Jay, a DJ and promoter based in South West UK. Here you will find my latest activities, set downloads, event information and photos. The site dynamically incorporates my existing networking sites such as My Space, Twitter, Facebook and Twitpic so it's constantly updated with news, pics and random things I find inspiring. But the main reason you're here I suspect is for music - My mixes are available directly from the audio page where you can download them for free with no adverts or signup hassle.

I welcome feedback so feel free to contact me through whatever network sites you use. If you'd like to make a booking enquiry the quickest way is to message me on Facebook.

BIOGRAPHY

the KandiFunk crew always learning

My musical style is typically underpinned with the Tech elements of House and bass-driven funky influences. But, since my first DJ days in the early nineties as a rave Old Skool DJ I've encompassed a variety of underground music.

I first touched down on the first set of decks in 1991, that were owned by my mate Will (DJ Beatcreep). Inspired by dodgy recorded cassette tapes recordings from parties at the time (remember those?), I started grabbing vinyl from independent record stores and (borrowing a lot of Will's) built a huge collection and learned mixing.

It came on strong surprisingly quickly and by the end of '91 I'd also started partying big-time at legal and not-so-legal raves. By networking wherever possible and generally hassling people until they gave in I soon started DJ'ing at these parties under my nickname DJ Shaggy. Gaining good experience and contacts, in 1992 I began promoting events at a local nightclub, The Brunel Rooms.great hair at The Fruit Club (yes that's DJ Vibes behind me)

In 1993 we started The Fruit Club, the fIrst regular Rave club night in the UK and set the standard for all future club events, and this was my first residency. The biggest DJ's in Rave were regulars; Slipmatt, Sy, Easygroove, Nicky Blackmarket, Grooverider....

Along side the main room we also booked the big House hitters.. Warren, Digweed, LuvDup, Sasha, Way Out Way etc.. which seems ironic now that some of these guys are way bigger than our mainroom hitters at the time, but then, that's the way it was.

Into the mid 90's underground music began to segregate into the various genres we know today, most of which I loved and enjoyed playing resulting in me being a very versatile DJ musically. Throughout the 90's I played a variety of styles at different events including residencies at international brands Godskitchen, Sundissential, Serious, Garage Nation, Dreamscape, Obsession (to name a few) and local favourite promotions The Fruit Club, Ektos, Goldiggers, Rejuven8 and Frisky, the in-house Funky House club night at The Brunel Rooms and my first residency playing House - and a new DJ pseudonym, Lee Jay.

DJ'ing @ Voodoo - big hands everybodyWith a career spanning nearly twenty years I have an extensive arsenal of music, I strive to continually reinvigorate my music tastes to stay on and ahead of the trend. I have a true enthusiasm for dance music and clubbing culture which comes over at performances. I've lined up alongside the big-hitters in the industry including Paul Oakenfold, Jules Jules, Eddie Halliwell, Norman Jay, Paul Harris, Sonique and Carl Cox to name-drop a few.

That basically summarises the way I roll. Currently a resident at House nights Voodoo in Reading and with KandiFunk in Swindon, I'm lining up at events with stars Alistair Whitehead and Kid Massive.

One day I'll release a tune....
